A High Schooler’s Journey into STEM

A firsthand perspective published in *Advances in Physiology Education* on navigating the world of STEM as a high school student, offering advice on finding research opportunities and fostering a passion for science.

Krish Taneja

I’m a high school senior at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida, where I balance my love of sports—playing soccer and watching football and basketball teams—with a deep passion for the life sciences. Fascinated by how biology and chemistry shape our world, I’ve immersed myself in every STEM opportunity Berkeley offers: from AP Biology and AP Chemistry to AP Physics C and hands-on lab projects that tackle real-world problems.

To share my enthusiasm, I co-founded Pharma Know, a student-led club dedicated to exploring chemistry and pharmaceuticals through guest speakers, journal discussions, and volunteer research opportunities. My research internship at the University of South Florida, the combination of challenging coursework, cutting-edge equipment, and the freedom to create new clubs has fueled my growth as a scientist—and inspired me to help others discover the same excitement I feel.
